Top 8 Reasons why Bows Affair should be your one stop hair accessories choice !

I have been wanting to write a cheeky write up on this for quite a while now.
Been lucky though that I have been kept busy with so many orders from loyal customers!!
Here however is a brief(lol..did i say brief!!) run down on why Bows Affair has to be your top choice for accessories!

1.Quality Quality Quality

I have 3 rambunctious kids who make for fantastic quality controllers!
My bows have undergone stringent testing for sure!
With the influx of many cheaper and bulk hair products from our neighboring  countries , its easy to be swayed.
But hey! a custom tailored suit compared to massed produced ones?I rest my case.

2.Originality
Bows Affair prides herself for being the creator or many new ideas and designs.
In today's digital world, that probably counts for naught as designs and ideas are replicated almost immediately.
But hey! You saw it at Bows Affair first!

3.Super Speed
Here my OCD has served me well.I am right on par with orders. No ridiculous waiting for 4 weeks for a bow.
Need it the next day?Well go ahead and drop me a message. Sitting right here in my superwoman cape with a needle and thread all ready to save the world!

4.Excellent customer service
I strive to please.Bows Affair is easily accessible through email, chats, phone and if I could get the wild life to work with me, you will get pigeons as messengers too!!
Have plenty of questions, shoot right ahead.
I am a mum of 3.I live for questions!!

5.Bows Affair- a full time love affair
I do this full time.So time, money and effort invested is significantly more than one who would do this part time.
I look everywhere for inspiration for my creations. My kids storybooks, in stores, watching television..everything !
It's a passion bordering on an obsession.
Thrills me to come up with new creations.
I seriously ADORE what I do!Lovingly handmade for sure! Will mention briefly that I do belt out to my favorite tunes as I listen to the radio when working and ahem!maybe one or 2 dance steps?

6.Proper Home office set up

If buying from the internet has never been your thing, then go on ahead and drop me a message.
My home office is set up for walk in buyers who may need to peruse quality before purchase or for those looking for a quick gift.
Did I mention too our cute packaging for gifts? Now how is that for killing 2 birds with one stone!

7. Bows Affair- a choice for all
Bows affair has an impressive range of products .
I personally love my flowers.I do wear them all the time.
Bows Affair is for both kids and adults.Nothing rocks than a matching mum and babe sets !!
Tweens too have cool ribbon choices.
For baby boys there are always pacifier clips.Older boys, go for personalized lanyards.
A difficult to buy for friend? You might want to take a look at our delightful charm bracelets or quality pins.
Want a bow or flower on a clip?headband?pin?
It's all about the choices!!

8.Face/faces behind Bows Affair

I love it when I can always put a face on a product.
Bows Affair is just that.
I do not hide behind a name.
This is the true essence of Bows Affair.
My personality is reflected in my creations and in the manner I conduct my business.
Everyone chips in so its a family effort!
It's fun, relaxed and trusting!I would not have it any other way.

There you go then!So are you convinced yet to start your love affair with us ?

Of Princesses and warriors

While I was engrossed, stitching away my new Princess line of bows , my inquisitive son palmed all the princesses I had strewn on the bed.

Cinderella, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty ,Belle ,Ariel, Cinderella , Tiana and Mulan.

He broke into a smile as he triumphantly announced singling out Mulan.."this one is a warrior..did you know that mummy?I am sure all the mummies will be buying her.She fought with all the men in the cartoon."

That set me thinking though, thinking real hard.

A princess Vs A warrior.

Sinkingly coming in terms with reality.

Every girl dreams of being a princess and every mum reinforces these dreams.
Beauty and a good heart epitomizes these fairy tales princesses.A princess is sweet(almost sickly sweet? You decide) and in almost all the cases a giver with a forgiving nature.

How is that relevant in today's harsh world?

Do I want my naive daughter waiting fruitlessly for her chance with a shinning knight in armor?

I am going to make my daughter a bow.
She will have the warrior.I can hope she will emulate this strong woman. That she will fight all her battles.Cross the finishing lines. All on her own.No waiting for a fictitious prince ridiculously riding a horse.
That is not to say that I am dissing all these lovely princesses.

Never hurts to dream.

Being a mum however I am gonna toss a lipstick in that bag of armors because hey, doesn't hurt to look good in a fight.

Flea Me Please!

BOWS AFFAIR  finally had her first flea on Good Friday 22 April 2011.
After continuous pleas by my 3 minions who were so eager to play shop,I finally caved in.
Had no idea what was in store..

Running a flea is serious hard work. From the planning,to making the merchandise ,to advertising  ,I was one marble short of losing it.

The kids on the other hand were as pleased as punch. All they thought they were gonna do is set up and sell and guard the cash box with their lives.Well as we soon found out it was a different ball game altogether.

Being new to the flea scene we were not as early there to set up as we should have .Well try dragging 3 hyper kids out of the house with a luggage or 2 full of stuff and the trusty stroller and huge diaper bag.

Kids ran and chose a great table or so they thought.Surrounded by other empty tables! To the kids empty tables=immediate playhouses.
After setting up the stuff and all, it was lunch time for my minions so off they went with their father giving me a good 15 minutes of deafening silence and peace.
All fueled up,they were once again ready.

Ryan did an amazing job putting everything in place!I totally left it up to him.Hey..after all this flea was just for them!Looking at his picture here, he is gonna grow to be a dashing young man.

Roy was your adorable flyer hand out guy.He would give a flyer or 10 to someone, stand right next to the person making puppy dog eyes and unwittingly these charmed people would walk with him right back to our little spot.Everyone fell in love with  him as he flashed those dimples of his, helped the customer put their loot into the bag and run to get change!

And lastly Reyna, she was well my...little model.Surprisingly on her best behaviour! We managed to steal a couple of dances to our favourite songs!

I was touched to have so many customers ,friends and family drop by for support.
It is an amazing feeling .Thank you guys..you very well know who you are!
Many of BOWS AFFAIR customers are no longer just customers, they have become much more than that to me..friends!

Thank you all again for making this an unexpected success. We went in with no expectations what so ever. This one was just for my kids.

Ryan ,Roy ,Reyna, I love you all 3 so much!

Trust in me

Been really busy with stuff to blog these past few weeks.
Was however quite upset when I read about what some fellow on line sellers encountered.Missing Buyers!!
They  are fondly (not!!)known as Dead beat buyers!! or MIA buyers.

They are the very people who  place orders promising to pay when the goods arrive and then they do the amazing disappearing act.Might just put that old David Copperfield to shame!!

Some might chalk this down to the naive seller who took that leap and decided to trust the buyer.

After all are we not all taught not to trust easily? That trust needs to be earned ?and even so it  is not  better to just stick to your guns?

I am one of those who love to trust.Have I been burnt before?Yes.Do I continue to trust?Hell Ya!

I love sending out my stuff with the trust that I would certainly get paid in due time.Love working on an unpaid order that I trust will get paid sooner or later.Love working on my stuff that I know that someone else would love!
Has anyone run off with my order you might be wondering?Never.

On the other hand I did come across some disappointing buyers who would place orders and I with my trust will work on them right away so that I can send them out the next day.And then poof!!They disappear. Not a word..not a sound..they are  gone!!No apologies..

That gets really hurtful. All those empty promises and my hard work down the drain.

Do I get mad?For sure.
Do I continue to trust?YES

What is the world without trust really?
Then I ponder who are these other people who purposely put through others through ordeals like this with their deceit.

Was it a compelling reason?

I guess we are never going to get these answers because these people have vanished.Vanished with many of a seller's trust. What are these people like in their daily lives?Pretty much the same if you ask me.
Lying and false promises can become a bad habit to kick. These could be parents, moulders of the new generation*shudder*.

Lesson of the day

If you cannot fulfill a promise have the decency to at least inform. That's the most basic form of courtesy.
At the end of it all you do reap what you sow.

Lets all make this world a better place to live in.There area already things beyond our control like natural disasters that are causing so much pain n turmoil in this world.Let us control what we can..ourselves!You are the boss of yourself.

Spread the love, cheer and trust around! That much we can all do!!

The Day the Giants Walk

While lying in bed restless last night , I could not help but think of the future of handmade bows.
I had many disturbing thoughts race through my mind.Coupled with medicine I think the thoughts went overboard.

In particular I was thinking about Walmart and its effects on the mom n pop's stores. What happened in the USA does mirror what happened here in Singapore as well. With seduction of cost effective and competitively priced goods , the bigger supermarkets effectively managed to bull doze the smaller family run businesses out of the way. After all who doesn't want more bang for their buck?
It will not be long before some giant swoops onto producing and selling bows too.Are bow makers doomed to suffer the same fate?

Already we face a saturated market .There is a bow galore practically everywhere. To stay in the game to produce the best bows is tantamount to one's survival.Bow makers have unleased creativity beyond expectations. Bows have certainly come a long way.

Bow making is an art.Sure anyone could make bows these days by watching you tube. But it does take more than just that.To be able to match colors and sizes of ribbon and to create something so delightful that you are rewarded with  happy squeals of  both buyer (usually the good old mum!)and wearer!!(the modern day little princess!).

It makes my day whenever I am told how excited the child was when she received the bows.I can practically see the gleam in her eyes and that broad broad smile.I savor moments like these.Worth every finger prick and burnt fingers on hot glue!!

Till the next time my friends do remember that the fate of handmade bows lie in your hands.Support your local bow makers!!!

Bow me a Cartoon

I love love! my cartoon themed bows.

What inspired me to create cartoon themed bows? The crazies who live around me;my sisters(adults may i add!), daughter(a mickey n barney lover) and my sons who just love to see me sit down and create:)

I was also noticing that while Hello Kitty and Minnie Mouse had been done to death ,other characters were simply lacking in attention. Not to worry,i have gallantly stepped in to fill out that deficit.

There should be a bow for every little girl's favourite character.Princesses,Powerpuff Girls ,Tom n Jerry..bring it all on!

While most of the cartoon inspired bows are meant for the little ones,I have a growing number of adults who request such cutesy bows(on pins however!).

It's a blast from the past.

Who doesn't love and remember Cookie Monster and the Sesame Street gang?
Heck,we grew up on those characters.Stick them on a pin n go button crazy!

While I pride myself for having started this trend of bows ,it wont be long before other bow makers ride this wave too.Let's just let me have this in writing that I was one of the pioneers..hahhaha

Enjoy the cartoon bows and do drop me an email if there is some other character that you would like either for your little princess or ahem! for your good self!

And Here is to Daring to Dream Once Again!

Are you a Flower Convert?

I love flowers in hair. The easiest way yet to jazz up any outfit.
I know that it takes alot more than guts to just stick one into your hair.
Most of us would willingly put one on our bubs  ,pleased at how great it looks on them .

What about for ourselves? Why the hesitation when its your own head?

Many traditions and customs(hawaiians, some ethnic indians ,brides etc..rattling a few) actually do have women wearing flowers in the hair.
The wearer exudes a sense of confidence and subtle sensuality.

My own family (mum,sisters,cousins...) wear them whenever opportunity arises(which i think is more often than not ).We are probably suckers for compliments*lol*

With lots of varieties available these days, there is one for every outfit.
A no brainer to pulling a look together.Going to a wedding?stick one on.To the beach?stick one on..u get the drift

Having said all...Now would you take up the challenge and be a flower convert?

Here are some pics of the converts i know:)
